OSHA awards $10.1 million to Harwood grant recipients
Washington – OSHA has announced the recipients of $10.1 million in Susan Harwood Training Grants for fiscal year 2013.
Seventy groups – including nonprofit organizations, universities, unions and employer associations – received grants to help fund education and training programs on workplace safety and health hazards, as well as injury prevention measures.
About $1.6 million in targeted grants went to 18 organizations for training on topics including fall protection in construction, grain handling, ergonomic hazards, and hazard communication for chemical exposure.
The remaining $8.5 million consists of follow-on grants awarded to 52 groups that demonstrated an ability to provide occupational safety and health training, education, and related assistance to both workers and employers in high-hazard industries and small businesses.
The grants come shortly after OSHA provided $1.2 million in Harwood grants to five organizations for disaster relief training for Hurricane Sandy recovery and cleanup efforts.
